When given these objects to repair, this is what was said about them:
“These were chairs that had been in my attic for 15 years or something.
They came from a house that belonged to my husband’s great grandfather.
I don’t know how old they are. Early twentieth century, maybe older.
But the chairs were completely unusable because the seats were gone.
They come from a house on the shore on the ocean, which was a summer house.”
Local Rhode Island kelp and bioplastic are woven together to make new seats.
A single brass rod fills the gap where the reed backing broke.
